What is underfloor heating?
Underfloor heating is an efficient, eco-friendly heating choice that is suitable for most property types. An even, comfortable heat, with no cold spots, is provided to rooms via a circuit of hidden pipes beneath the floor.
By removing the need for radiators, underfloor heating frees up wall space and is idea for smaller rooms or open plan living.
UFH is extremely flexible and can be installed throughout a property (including upstairs rooms) or combined with radiators in different areas. Underfloor heating can be low profile and fitted retrospectively, meaning you do not have to dig up your flooring to install it.
Different underfloor systems are available and Prestantia Eco’s team will help you decide the best one for you. This will depend on a number of factors, including whether your project is a new build or refurbishment, and your existing heating system and energy source.

How does underfloor heating work?
Underfloor heating works by continuously circulating warm water through the pipework to generate an even, gentle heat.
Unlike radiators, which work at higher temperatures, an underfloor heating system operates at a much lower and safer surface temperature.
The underfloor system works at a lower temperature because it uses the entire floor area to radiate the heat, unlike radiators which transfer heat upwards using convection and leave cold areas at floor level.
UFH also offers greater control than radiators through thermostats that can be applied to a room or a zone.
There are benefits for allergy sufferers too with reduced moisture and lower air movement that helps to reduce dust.
Is underfloor heating expensive to run?
Because underfloor heating works with lower water temperatures, it is around 25 per cent more efficient than radiators and can therefore have a significant effect in reducing energy consumption and heating costs.
Its low operating temperature makes it up to 40 per cent more efficient when paired with a heat pump.
